Beginning his PT career with an internship with the Providence Bruins, AHL affiliate of the NHL’s Boston Bruins, Mr. Laporte was responsible for player rehab and initiation of treatments during practice and games.
He was responsible for equipment inventory and assisted team physician during various medical treatments. He was responsible for opening and securing the Dunkin’ Donuts Center (former Providence Civic Center) as well as player locker rooms and training room.
Upon graduation from Bryant University with a BS in Business Administration Mr. Laporte accepted a position as a Branch Automation Specialist for Citizens Bank in August of 2004. In this position, Mr. Laporte served as liaison between upper management and bank branches to ensure stability of mission critical branch automation software and servers.
To pursue his aspirations of Physical Therapy, in August of 2005 Mr. Laporte accepted a position at The Center for Orthopaedics in Johnston, RI as a PT Aide. In this position he was responsible for helping patients reach desired goals and resume normal activities of daily life. He had the responsibility of instructing and supervising therapeutic exercises.
Upon his acceptance to the URI Doctorate of Physical Therapy program, Mr. Laporte was awarded a graduate assistantship as a PT Aide at Eleanor Slater Hospital, Zambarano Unit in August of 2007.
While at Zambarano Hospital, Mr. Laporte was responsible for treating patients with complicated diagnoses including stroke, spinal cord injuries, MS, parkinsons, amputations and prostheses. He also conducted treatment sessions in a team environment alongside OT, speech and recreational therapists.
In September of 2008 Mr. Laporte accepted a position as a Physical Therapy Aide at Pappas Physical Therapy in Johnston, RI. He was responsible for the instruction of patient exercise programs as well as the use of modalities such as ultrasound, hot and cold packs, laser, IFC and traction. He held this position until May, 2008.
In May of 2008, Mr. Laporte began his clinical rotation experience at Elite Physical Therapy in Warwick, RI. During this 13 week rotation Mr. Laporte experienced hands on training with initial examination and evaluation, therapeutic exercise prescription, manual therapy techniques and billing procedures. He was responsible for a patient case load of 12 orthopedic patients per day.
Mr. Laporte received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Bryant University in 2004 and received his clinical Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy from The University of Rhode Island, class of 2010.
He is a Physical Therapist at a rehab facility in Ocoee, FL
He holds a Personal Trainer Certification through the National Exercise and Sports Trainers Association.
He is a current member of the American Physical Therapy Association.
Mr. Laporte resides in Ocoee, FL with his wife and enjoys cooking, reading, exercising and traveling.
